Bring on the tips

It’s important for the California Watch staff to be available and reachable – so we can hear your feedback and so that you have an outlet for tips and story ideas. We decided against a generic tipline. In my experience, I've found that the best tipsters like to reach out to a reporter who they know or can trust. It might be a reporter whose byline they recognize. Or it might be a reporter who the tipster knows can handle a difficult story. Rarely does a great tip come in to a general mailbox or tip line. I'm sure there have been exceptions. But over the years I've waded through thousands of spam e-mails that have landed in e-mail tip mailboxes set up in other newsrooms. And I still can't remember a single great tip.

That said, we are by no means hiding. If you check out our reporter profile pages, we are accessible and transparent. You will find very receptive reporters on our team willing to listen to great story ideas.

Here’s how to reach our editorial reporting and editing team. If you click on the names below, you can e-mail our staff. One caveat, however: You have to be registered on our site to use the e-mail forms, otherwise you'll encounter an error message. We're working to fix that soon.
