It's not often that former Gov. Gray Davis breaks out his checkbook for politics anymore - unless it's for his old boss, Jerry Brown.
For at least the fifth time since 2006, Davis made a contribution to Brown's campaign account yesterday, according to Brown's campaign filings - this time for $2,500.
Others who ponied up in last night's filings include Feminist Majority Foundation founder Peg Yorkin and Zacky Farms executive Lillian Zacky, who both gave $15,000.
Now of counsel at Loeb & Loeb in Los Angeles, Davis is a former governor who was recalled in the 2003 election that ultimately elevated Arnold Schwarzenegger to the post. Earlier in his career, he served as Brown's chief of staff from 1975 to 1981.
Davis also held a fund-raiser for Brown in late 2008, ostensibly for his Attorney General campaign, although speculation was running rampant even then that he would declare his candidacy for governor.
