Obama touches down in San Francisco for Boxer fundraising encore

Apparently undeterred by angry heckling and an eerie history of botched presidential visits, President Barack Obama touched down in San Francisco yesterday for a party or three in honor of Sen. Barbara Boxer, who looks to be facing a tough re-election bid in the fall.

The events, which are expected to raise more than $600,000 for Boxer alone, should add to the long-time incumbent's lead in the money race. Her campaign reported having nearly $10 million on hand in its most recent report, which was filed this week.

Obama was in California last month for a round of Boxer fundraisers in Los Angeles, where he made headlines for sounding the alarm that Boxer could lose her re-election bid if California Democrats didn't rally behind her.

I don't want anyone here taking this for granted. Unless she's got that support she might not win this thing, and I don't think that's an acceptable outcome. So I want everyone to work hard.

The events brought in upwards of $3 million for Boxer and the Democratic National Committee.

Naturally, Republicans were none too pleased with Obama's return visit yesterday.

Both the National Republican Senatorial Committee and Carly Fiorina's campaign accused Obama of choosing to drum up cash for Boxer rather than tend to the colossal oil spill on the Gulf Coast, where the President is scheduled to visit later this week.
