Secretary of State
The Secretary of State's Cal-Access website offers a wealth of finance and lobbying data, allowing users to track campaign contributions. You also can use the site to track California's registered lobbyists, lobbying employers and lobbying firms. The secretary of state also provides documents that detail California election results going back to the early 1990s.

Federal Election Commission
The Federal Election Commission tracks campaign cash flowing to elected officials in Washington.

Fair Political Practices Commission
This state commission tracks politicians' charitable donations and personal financial interests. The FPPC also allows you to keep up behested payments and complaint closure letters.

Legislative Analyst's Office
This independent state office provides detailed analyses of state fiscal issues and policy, including a valuable annual, nonpartisan review of the state budget.

California State Auditor
The Bureau of State Audits performs some routine annual reviews of state government for the Legislature and governor's office. The office also pursues investigations in response to whistleblower complaints.

Legislative Counsel
The state’s Legislative Counsel provides a searchable database that will help you follow any bill as it travels through the legislative process. Find out when it is scheduled for public hearings, which interest groups support and oppose it, how its language changes and ultimately which lawmakers vote for or against it. It is also a good place to search the California Code.

Maplight.org
The nonprofit group based in Berkeley captures, among other things, campaign contributions and voting records for state lawmakers. The only caveat is that some of the contribution data is a bit outdated. Maplight.org also tracks bills.

This site, created by the Schwarzenegger administration, provides information on state contracts, travel expenses for senior state officials and personal financial disclosure statements from high-ranking state employees.

Center for Responsive Politics
The Center for Responsive Politics has created a handy tool to follow money flowing to and from elected officials. Find out "who's giving and who's getting" with this easy-to-use collection of finance and lobbying informaton.
